Trivia Question 9/15/11 – Moon Landings

On September 13, 1959, the first human made object made contact with the surface of the moon. That was the Soviet Union’s Luna 2 which crashed into the moon at high speed.  In 1962 the United States reached the moon when Ranger 4 impacted the lunar surface.  Of course through the years there have been many moon landings including six manned landings.

Since the first moon contact in 1959, how many man-made objects have reached the surface of the moon, either crashing into it or making soft landings?

Moon Landing

According to what I was able to dig up online, there have been a total of 51 manned probes to land (either soft landing or crashing) on the surface of the moon.  The US has had 24 (including 6 manned landings), the USSR had 20, Japan had 3, India 2, the ESA 1 and China 1.

We had a total of 29 people check in to tonight’s net and no folks had the correct answer to the Trivia Question.  But, since we play by Price is Right rules, we’ll give our kudos to Alex KJ6JXL who said 50.  Congratulations to:
