Comedian Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting the Oscars for the second time this year. According to the official 86th Oscars Fact Sheet, the late comedian Bob Hope holds the record for the most Academy Awards hosting gigs.  How many times did Bob Hope host the Academy Awards shows?




Bob Hope began his hosting tenure when the Oscars weren’t even being televised, and he ended it with the show’s 50th anniversary. In between the TV host captured another milestone: He became the master of ceremonies when the 25th Annual Academy Awards became the first one to be televised on March 19th, 1953. He ranks as the #1 used host on the show with Billy Crystal in second place at just nine times as MC.

Bob Hope has hosted the Academy Awards 19 times between 1939 and 1977.
