Is it a coincidence the Internet’s Birthday and National Cat Day are the same day? Probably. But the Internet was almost called the Catenet (pronounced “cat-en-et”) a term that came from the word catenated, which means to link together in a connected series.
Anyway, today is National Cat Day and the Internet’s Birthday.
How old is the Internet?
National Cat Day was founded on October 29, 2005 by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige and a large group of cat lovers.
The first packet of data was sent between two of the original nodes of the ARPANET, an early iteration of the Internet we use today, at 10:30 PM on October 29, 1969. So, happy 46th birthday Internet. (And happy Cat Day, cat lovers).
